Maharaja Jai Singh II (1693-1743) founded the Rose Pink City of Jaipur, is the
capital of Rajasthan. This city is a major location for any visitor who likes
to explore some amount of adventure and historic monuments. Jaipur is in the
middle of some rough and tough hills, crowned with proud and strong standing
forts & enclosed by embattled walls. The houses in the pink city of Jaipur
is known for the color pink that is very visible in the line of the streets
with their rose pink color, lending enchantment to the scene, which is almost
magical at sunset.
The Old City (Known as the Pink City) is a great place to discover and rediscover
with the passing time, as one can go on and on with places. Maharaja Man Singh
II painted the whole city in Pink color, when Prince of Wales, later Edward
VII, visited Jaipur in 1876 AD. This was a law that was enforced and also obliged
with. A very well planned and organized place and it is a definite treat to
any visitor who visits this city for the first time.
Jaipur & its surroundings are rather like an endless museum that goes on
and on and also the fact that this stands strong in the city. The city also
offers an endless variety of crafts and other items like Jewellery and handicrafts.
Jewelers here still work on the beautiful enamel-on-gold pendants, studded on
the reverse with precious stones or pearls & turquoise that one sees in
miniature paintings.
Places to visit:
Amber Fort
When you visit the city of Jaipur, which we know as the pink city.the most important
place that no one wants to miss is the Amber Fort. A ride on the elephant is
the best way to discover the architecture and history of Amber Fort that stands
evident in front of you.
Jaigarh Fort
Jaigarh Fort is considered as the Fort of Victory. This is perched on the Chilh
ka Tola that is known as the Hill of Eagles, 400 feet above the Amber Fort.
The walls are long and strong, spread over three kilometers. Once you enter
through the massive south facing Doongar Darwaza, you'll instantly feel the
Rajput romanticism.The other entrance to the fort is through the Awani Darwaza
in the east.
Nahagarh Fort
This Tiger or the Nahargarh Fort is the first among the three forts built by
the kings of Jaipur. In 1734 Jai Singh II built this fort, it lies 6 km north
west of City Palace and provides some interesting views of the city of Jaipur
and down below is the Man Sagar Lake. This fort has some memories of the so-called
legends of those times that have added their stamp at different times to the
structures within the fort.
In the middle of this lake is a duck blind, which was used for shooting parties
by the royal family. It was also regarded as the royal treat to the kings ,
it was also used as a personal treasury for many years.
Excursions:
Sanganer ( 12 km)
The architecture of Sanganer is located on the Tonk road it adds to the pride
of the city and it has the ruined palaces. Sanganer has exquisitely carved Jain
temples. The town is a gateway through the ruins of two tripolias (Triple gateways).
The town is well known for its handicrafts and handloom work that is an inclination
for all visitors who visit this city for the first time. This place also produces
some of the finest hand printed textiles from units of block and screen printers.
This textile is popular all over the country and abroad.
Bagru (35 km)
This place of Bagru is on the ground level and the fort is still in good shape.
This place is most known for its hand printed handloom industry using simple
techniques that is done by the people here manually.. The designs of these handworks
are less complicated and are in earthy hues.
Ramgarh Lake (32 km north east)
A huge artificial lake was developed by creating a high bund amidst tree-covered
hills.
Samode (40 km north west)
If you want to experience the most wonderful time of your life and cherish these
as memories then come home to Samode and carry back fond memories that live
forever, It provides a fine example of the Rajput haveli architecture and is
an ideal spot for outings.
Sambhar (94 km west)
This is the largest inland salt lake of India known for the holy Devayani Tank.
Jaisinghpura Khor (12 km off the Amt Road)
One of the settlements of the tribe in Rajasthan that is called the Meena tribe,
it has a formidable fort, a Jain temple and a step-well amid lush surroundings.
Shopping :
Who does not like to enjoy and shop around and Rajasthan is no exception for
any visitor who visits this state for the first time.It is a real treat to any
one who loves to look around for something unique and exotic like the handicrafts
and Jewellery.It has a rich treasure of mind boggling Jewellery, beautiful gems,
semi precious stones, Kundan and Minakari work (enamel work on gold). Beautiful
cotton fabrics including sanganeri prints, tie-and-dye and fine kota 'doria'
saris are the best buys for women.
There is also the very famous enamel work that Jaipur offers. The city is also
famous for woollen carpets and cotton rugs.Equally popular are the leather footwear,
especially the embrodered "jutis".
The shopping spots to discover and explore more and more are Rajastha (Govt.
Handicrafts shop on Mi Road), Johri Bazaar, MI Road, Nehru Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar,
Chaupar Stalls. The markets generally remain closed on.
How to Reach:
Air
The Jaipur Airport is called Sanganer Airport . There are domestic flight connections
to Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur and Udaipur. There is a single
international flight to Dubai.
Train
Connections are from Delhi, Agra, Mumbai ,Chennai, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Udaipur,
Ahmedabad. Well connected from other states like UP, MP .
Road
A convenient mode of travel to Jaipur is by road. Regular bus service of AC
and Deluxe Coaches are available.
