beauty of the state .It is about 100 m over the city and also houses a citadel
within its massive ramparts. Walking down the narrow pebbled lanes, you would
definitely feel and sense the true magic of Jaisalmer. There are a lot of entrances
that one would find like the Pols, including the Ganesh Pol, Suraj Pol, Bhoota
Pol and the Hava Pol guard the Megh Durbar and the Jawahar Mahal which were
occupied by the royal family. You would also get to discover the market area
in front of the fort that is called Manek Chowk. From Manek Chowk, one can walk
into the lanes where the famous carved havelis are there. The Jaisalmer Fort
also is popularly known as the Golden Fort for the amber hue that is displays,
which mesmerizes every tourist coming to the place.
The Havelis of Jaisalmer:
Some of the Havelis of Jaisalmer are interesting places to visit. The very well
placed and well-latticed Havelis of Jaisalmer are elaborately designed. Some
of the exquisite lattice work that are worth visiting are Patwon-Ki-Haveli,
Salim Sing ki-Haveli, Nathmalji-ki-Haveli all with Jain Temples;
The Parswanath Temple is by far the oldest and the most beautiful of the Jain
temples found in this city. The walls of the sanctum are carved with animal
and human figures that beautify it. There is also a small dome that is crowned
by a water pot containing a lotus flower.
Gadsisar Lake:
It is a rainwater lake that is now being used as a picnic spot - ideal for boating.
This is one of the best hangouts in Jaisalmer.
Lodurva:
This was once upon a time the capital of Rawal Jaisal, Lodurva as a place has
ruins of the ancient township. It is also considered to be an important center
of Jain pilgrimage. The temples at Lodurva display some very fine pieces of
intricate craftsmanship on yellow stone.
The main festival that is celebrated in this city is the Desert Festival that
is very famous and well celebrated. This city has always been one of the main
tourist attractions of the state and will remain so for its richness in cultural
heritage.
